Quartziteis a hard metamorphic rock that was originally a sand stone. Sandstone is transformed into quartzite through heating and extreme pressure. Quartzite can come in various shades of pinks and red due to varying amounts of iron oxide. However, pure quartzite ranges from white to gray. Quartzite gains its streaks from the re-crystallization of some of the impurities that were present in the original sand stone.

Some common uses of quartzite around the home are countertops, vanities, and fireplace surrounds.
